A Kansas lawmaker is considering a bill that would allow spanking of children to the point where it would leave a mark. Rep. Gail Finney is proposing a law that would allow up to 10 strikes of the hand. These strikes would also be allowed to leave "redness and bruising". Currently the law in Kansas makes it illegal to spank to the point where it leaves marks. This controversial bill would also allow a parent to give permission to others to spank their child as well. However, it would still make it illegal to punch a child in the head or use a belt.

Our question of the day for Thursday... would you support such a law? Most psychologists agree that spanking is not a helpful tool for discipline, and ultimate does more harm than any good.  Is this proposed law a way for parents to keep control over how they choose to raise their children, or is it just a license for abuse?

We will discuss your comments on the show tomorrow, so please post your thoughts below or on our Facebook page.
