New York State Police stepped up traffic patrols and sobriety checkpoints for Superbowl Sunday. The increased enforcement lead to many New Yorkers receiving tickets.

Superbowl Sunday is a big day for parties, so police were ready with extra DWI stops and patrols that started as early as Noon on February 1.

In total, 1,390 tickets were handed out by the NY State Police on Sunday, according to a report in the Times Herald Record. 31 people were stopped for driving while intoxicated. Over 400 speeding tickets were issued, while the remaining infractions ranged from distracted driving to not wearing a seat belt.
