While it seems like a nice idea to let the fans have their say, sometimes it just isn't for the best.

The Staten Island Yankees had a fan vote that actually included Pizza Rats as an option for a new team name.

The team said they will remain the Yankees for the immediate future.

The Pizza Rat moniker comes from the huge viral video from September of 2015, in which a rat can be seen dragging a slice of pizza down the stairs at the First Avenue L train station in Manhattan. Since then, the YouTube video has amassed over nine million hits.

The Class A New York-Penn League team said in a statement:

Over time it became clear that the approval and acceptance of the new name and artwork would take longer than initially anticipated. With that taken into consideration, we decided to table the rebranding process for the upcoming season.

Other options for the fans included the Bridge Trolls, Island Heroes, Killer Bees and Rock Pigeons. Maybe the Staten Island Pizza Rats isn't so bad after all.

Staten Island finished right behind the Hudson Valley Renegades in the McNamara Division in 2016 with a 44-31 record.
