According to The Inquisitr, wrestling legend Verne Gange has died after a battle with Alzheimer's at the age of 89. Gagne came from an era before the commercial success of wrestling, founding the AWA (American Wrestling Association) out of Minnesota in 1960. The company ran from 1960-1991.

The AWA launched the careers of many wrestling legends including Hulk Hogan, Jesse 'The Body' Ventura, Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan, Pat Patterson, and Sgt. Slaughter. Gange was a 16 time World Heavyweight Champion and and a WWE Hall of Famer who helped train many wrestling superstars including 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flar. My exposure to Verne Gange was watching him in the 80's on television with AWA. Sad to hear of his passing today. R.I.P. Verne Gagne. Check out WWE's tribute to Verne Gange.
