Thousands of people across the world applied to go on a one way trip to the planet Mars. Now the field has been narrowed from over 200 thousand to one hundred. The Dutch Mars One organization began its search in April 2013. Mars One plans on sending a crew to Mars by 2024. Yes, we did say a one way trip. The finalists will spend the rest of their days millions of miles away from family and loved ones.

So what kind of people are they looking for to head to The Red Planet? Bas Lansdorp, CEO and co-founder of Mars One said

We can teach people engineering, farming and medical skills, but finding people and teams that can actually pull off the mission is our biggest challenge.

Of the 100 finalists, only 24 people will be chosen to actually go to Mars. Lansdorp said four people will make the initial planned trip to Mars in 2024, followed by new crews every two years.
