A woman who got lost while hiking in the dark in the Hudson Valley was found thanks to a group of brave local officials.

On Thursday, a Taconic State Park manager called the Columbia County Dispatch Center to report a lost 35-year-old female hiker from Millerton.

Dispatch called DEC Central Dispatch requesting Forest Ranger assistance. Ranger Chris DiCintio was dispatched to the search just after 6 p.m.

With the assistance of a New York State Police helicopter, the woman was located and coordinates were relayed to Forest Rangers

Forest Rangers, members from the Columiba County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Park Police went into the woods and the woman was found by 8 p.m.

Officials learned the unnamed woman didn’t have a flashlight, or any source of light, and got confused when darkness fell, venturing off the trail.

The woman, who didn’t need medical attention, was safely brought back to the road by 9 p.m.
