Tragedy struck on Saturday when a local woman died during a Hudson Valley parade celebrating St. Patrick's Day.

The Times Herald Record reports that Susan McCormick of Rock Hill was killed  after she fell off a flat-bed float and was run over by the trailer. It happened Saturday during the annual Rock Hill St. Patrick's Day parade.

Investigators are quoted by the Record as saying 25-year-old Bjorn Egenes of Rock Hill was driving a truck hauling a parade float. After stopping to converse with someone in the crowd, he started driving again. Police say that McCormick was leaning on the tailgate and lost her balance when the vehicle moved forward. She fell over the tailgate and landed on the road.

Coroners pronounced the woman dead at the scene. McCormick's husband is a Rock Hill firefighter. The Town Supervisor, William Rieber released the following statement:

My thoughts are with the family, and there's a lot of suffering going on in Rock Hill because she was such a sweet lady and we're all one family here.

A post to the Rock Hill Fire Department's Facebook page asks for everyone to keep those involved with the tragedy in their thoughts and prayers:
