Looks like the winter cold is finally here.

The Hudson Valley and Northeast should see below normal temperatures throughout the middle of the month of January. Meteorologists say that temperatures could dip to ten to twenty degrees below normal across much of the Northern US, as the Polar Vortex shifts southward through Canada.

The cold won't all come at once, as temperatures are expected to warm in to the 40's across the Hudson Valley by later this week, and into the weekend. The milder air won't last for long as a pattern of cold air will settle across much Midwest and eastern United States.

Of course, wintry precipitation is also a possibility next week, though how much snow falls and where will depend on the track and strength of the storms, according to forecasters. AccuWeather says the odds are against any slow-moving storm that would bring an excessive accumulation. The Hudson Valley could very well be spared.

From there, some forecasters say milder air return again across the eastern US though it is too early to tell.
