A local man was saved from the Hudson River Sunday after an accident left him stranded in the water. LoHud reports Ben Kaufman, a New City man and experienced windsurfer of 20 years, went down off Stony Point after attempting to turn around to head back to shore.

Falling in the water is common, the problem arose as he was attempting to get back on the board.  He was using a technique known as a 'water start', where wind fills the sail and pulls you back on the board. During the water start Kaufman became stuck when the mast broke.

Off-duty Sheriff Patrol Sgt. Albert Brunner happened to be nearby and came to Kaufman's aid. The whole incident was caught on his Go Pro camera.
