We've been crunching the numbers, watching the forecast and now we're ready to predict if the Hudson Valley will see a White Christmas.

Historically it's been hit-or-miss when it comes to waking up on Christmas and seeing a blanket of white in the Hudson Valley. There have been a few major storms that have ripped through our area over the past decade, but for the last few years Christmas hasn't brought any memorable winter weather.

This year, however, it looks like that may all change. According to the National Centers for Environmental Information, the Hudson Valley area usually has about a 30% chance of getting snow on Christmas. But that number looks much higher if you take into consideration the temperature and precipitation outlook for the next two weeks.

The Weather Channel is predicting temperatures to remain in the 30s during the week leading up to Christmas. Several days of snow showers, with small accumulation totals are also scattered throughout the next few weeks, including one on Christmas Eve.

We're predicting that the cold temperatures will allow those smaller snow accumulations stay frozen. If the predicted light snow forecast remains for Christmas Eve, even a small dusting is likely to "clean up" the already snow-covered grassy areas, making for a White Christmas in the Hudson Valley.

Of course forecasts can change this early on, so we'll be watching for any new developments and will pass them along.
