Will fast food workers in the state of New York get a raise soon?  The Times Herald Record reports that a state wage board in New York is meeting in New York City to discuss whether fast food workers deserve a raise. New York's minimum wage is currently $8.75 an hour.

The board, which was created by Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration, will examine whether to increase the minimum wage for the fast food industry. Reports indicate a recommendation is expected some time this summer. Any sort of increase would then require approval by Cuomo's labor commissioner but would not need legislative consent.

The board meets for the first time Wednesday in New York City. More meetings are planned in June in Buffalo, and in Long Island and Albany. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles City Council endorsed a plan to raise the minimum wage in that city to $15 an hour. Other cities and sates across the country are meeting over proposed wage increases for the fast food industry.
