AAA is pushing the state of New York to make it a law that all backseat passengers wear seat belts.

According to AAA, 886 back seat passengers who not who were not wearing their seat belts died from 1995 to 2014.

As of now, only passengers under the age of 16 must buckle up under New York state law. Currently, twenty eight states and the the District of Columbia require all passengers to buckle up.

According to statistics released from AAA, passengers in the back seat who are not wearing their seat belts are three times more likely to die, and eight times more likely to be seriously injured in a crash.
