You may do a double take if you're near the Hudson River this weekend. A 17th century tall ship will be setting sail in our area through Sunday.

The Kalmar Nyckel is on its way to Newburgh from its home in Delaware. The ship is an impressive recreation of a colonial tall ship that was built in the 1600s. The vessel was built for the Swiss Navy and then used to bring settlers to the new world. According to the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation's website, the tall ship made four round-trips across the Atlantic, establishing the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley.

The new Kalmar Nyckel was built in 1997 and serves as a sort of floating classroom to educate people about Delaware's maritime and colonial history. The ship is currently on a tour of the East Coast and will be stopping in Newburgh to give tours and offer two-hour trips out on the water. There are even pirate-themed cruises available for families.

If you want to get a peek at this massive ship, it will be docked in Newburgh through the weekend. Those interested in getting tickets for any of their day sails or pirate sails can register on the foundation's website.
