On October 10 the Poughkeepsie post office introduced a postmark to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Reformed Church of Poughkeepsie. Originally organized by Reformed Dutch worshipers in 1716, the church has been in operation for three centuries.

In 1723 the church was given a plot of land on the corner of Main and Market where they built their first house of worship. In 1921 the church ws moved to a new building on Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie where it still stands today. The current church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

The postmark will be available on all mail sent out of the Poughkeepsie Post Office until November 9. According to Linn's Stamp News, the cancellation depicts the crest of the Reformed Church of America which includes lions, a helmet, and banners with the Latin motto ”Nisi Dominus Frustra” and the Dutch motto “Eendracht maakt macht.” Loosely translated, the motto means "Everything is in vain without God."
