Why Are Hudson Valley Residents Giving Up Their Boxes of Cereal?

Residents have begun donating their boxes of cereal for a great cause.

Cereal Counts is Dutchess County's annual boxed cereal drive that helps supply children and teens with breakfast food during the summer. Many children in our area depend on breakfast provided by schools, but when school is out for the summer many of those children cannot access area schools.

The goal of Cereal Counts is to get boxes of cereal into the hands of those children, teenagers and adults who need breakfast food over the summer. The drive begins this week, and anyone who would like to donate boxes of cereal can drop them off at the Hudson Valley Community Center at 110 Grand Avenue in Poughkeepsie through May 6. Donations can be made from 9am to 8pm every day except Sundays, when the Community Center closes at 5pm.

All of the cereal collected will be delivered by volunteers to area food pantries on Sunday morning May 6. Recipients of the donated cereal include

Dutchess Outreach/Beverly Closs Food Pantry
Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers
Community Action Partnership for their pantries in Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Red Hook and Dover
Reach Out Family Worship Center in Hyde Park
Hudson River Housing/Gannett House
Morse Magnet Elementary School Food Pantry
Interfaith Senior Housing Tower and the
Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Food Pantry
