The spelling of Syracuse can be a bit tricky, though the Department of Transportation might want to make sure they're people are double-checking before putting up their signs.

NBC New York reports that a road sign on Interstate 481 for the Syracuse airport has the city's name misspelled as S-R-Y-A-C-U-S-E.

The sign was along the southbound on-ramp in the town of Cicero, New York.

UPDATE: The DOT has since replaced the sign.

Syracuse.com says that it is unknown when the sign first went up. Both the Executive Director for Syracuse Hancock International Airport, as well as a spokesman for the NY State Department of Transportation said they were not aware of any issues.

Could it possibly be the work of pranksters?

A similar situation like this happened in the Hudson Valley last month, when a construction warning on Broadway in Newburgh was misspelled. Sources say the error was corrected shortly after.
