According to Empire Center's annual Benchmarking NY report, the town with the highest property tax in New York State goes to Binghamton. Data from the state comptroller's office to calculate effective tax rates for thousands of localities across New York.

It should be noted that the report excluded New York City and Nassau County.

Binghamton's effective rate came to $58.28 per $1,000, or $4,959 a year for a home at Binghamton's median value of $85,100. The city with the lowest property tax rate? That distinction goes to the Town of Rye in Westchester County, where their effective rate came to $19.20 per $1,000.
