Speculation continues about the future of IBM's East Fishkill, NY chip manufacturing plant. This follows IBM's $3 billion dollar announcement on the company's plans for the development of next-generation computer chips. A company press release explained the 5 year plan and it's potential huge effects on the tech world, that involved "IBM Research scientists and engineers from Albany and Yorktown, New York, Almaden, California, and Europe". There was no mention of the East Fishkill or Poughkeepsie facilities however. IBM spokesman Doug Shelton has declined comment when asked about the matter.

IBM's E. Fishkill location currently employs 7,000 workers. Rumors have swirled for months about the future of IBM and it's chip business. Could they be ready to sell? One name that's popped up is GlobalFoundries. Still, there is considerable curiosity (and maybe worry), about the company's future in the Hudson Valley and the direct impact it could hold for the area.
