You may not be surprised to find out that the holidays are known as "heavy drinking season."  but on what days of the year do people get the most drunk?

Well according to a survey conducted by BACtrack Breathalyzers, December through March is known as "Drinking Season." During this 3 month period, people have had the highest amount of days where their blood alcohol level was over .06%. In fact, 5 out of 7 days during the month you can expect the average BAC to be at a level where impairment begins.

Of course, this survey only complies data from people using a smartphone breathalyzer app. So this isn't an average of every American, just Americans who drink so much that they require a breathalyzer app on their phone. With that in mind, the numbers do show that there are certain days where there is more heavy drinking going on.

Other big drinking days last year included December 6 and 7 with .087% and .088%, the weekend of January 18 and 19 with .090% and .088% and Superbowl weekend where the high average was .091%.

It's quite possible many people were drowning their sorrows during Valentine's day weekend too, because the average reading on the most romantic of holidays reached .092%. The only day outside of the "drinking season" that was over .08% was during Cinco de Mayo weekend with a whopping .090%
