We remember T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan on his birthday today (Sept. 30). The singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the British glam rock band would have been 68.

Bolan died two weeks before his 30th birthday on Sept. 16 1977 in a car accident. The band T. Rex originally formed under the name Tyrannosaurus Rex and decided to shorten the name to T. Rex. The band had great success in the UK during the early to mid 70's with fourteen Top 20 hits. T. Rex drew attention in the U.S with the release of 1971's 'Electric Warrior' album. The album marked a turning point in the band's sound, bringing a more glam rock style to the band. Singles included 'Bang a Gong (Get It On)' and 'Jeepster'. 'Bang a Gong (Get It On)' was T. Rex's biggest selling single, and only U.S. Top 10 hit.
