Happy Birthday today (Feb. 8) to Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil. He’s 56. Other rockers celebrating include bassist Will Turpin of Collective Soul (46) and bassist Dave Farrell of Linkin Park (40).

Motley Crue was formed out of Los Angeles, California in 1981 with the classic lineup featuring Vince Neil lead vocals, Nikki Sixx on bass, Mick Mars on guitar, and Tommy Lee on drums. The band sold 100 million records worldwide including 25 million in the U.S. alone. Big selling albums in the 80’s included Shout at the Devil, Theatre of Pain,Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr. Feelgood. Motley Crue ended their career with a final world tour that lasted nearly 2 years. Their final show was on Dec. 31, 2015 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

I saw the final Motley Crue tour three times and all the shows were a lot of fun. Motley Crue have put an end to a nearly 35 year career as ‘hair metal’ legends of the LA’s Sunset Strip. Vince Neil has also had a successful solo career, releasing several albums over the years and playing the Motley Crue hits live. He was most recently seen on the new Celebrity Apprentice which we covered on a recent Metal Box where he was feuding with pop star Boy George of Culture Club.
