Walmart made a huge announcement this week, but it may mean that Skynyrd fans will have to shop elsewhere.

In the aftermath of last week's massacre in Charleston, which left nine African-Americans dead in their church, many are debating whether the Confederate flag is an appropriate symbol. Lawmakers are calling for the removal of flags from across the South, and Mississippi is even considering a redesign for their state flag, which contains a version of the rebel flag.

Yesterday, Walmart and Sears both announced that they will no longer be selling any confederate merchandise in their stores. K-Mart, who is owned by Sears, will also remove any Confederate merchandise. CNN reports that Ebay has also announced a ban on the sale of Confederate Flag auction items. A Walmart spokesperson was quoted as saying,

We never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer. We have taken steps to remove all items promoting the confederate flag from our assortment, whether in our stores or on our web site.

As of the writing of this article, there were still "Rebel to the End" T-Shirts available on the Sears website, showcasing a skull and Confederate flag and a description calling the phrase "Southern Pride." No Confederate flag items were found for sale on Walmart's website, aside from an entire catalogue of Lynyrd Skynyrd CDs. Some Skynyrd albums prominently display the rebel flag; most notably their popular "Greatest Hits" collection.

There is no word if Walmart will continue to sell the Skynyrd discs, but it would be a swift about-face from a company that recently had the southern rockers perform a private concert for their shareholders.

The City Wire reports that Skynyrd was the entertainment on June 3 during their week long  conference in Arkansas. Thousands of employees and shareholders gathered for a week of events, including the private concert by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

We want to know what you think. Should Walmart continue to sell Skynyrd CDs? Or do you think it is it a violation of their new policy?
