The promised summer opening for the Walkway Over the Hudson elevator is nearly upon us. The elevator will be available to the public starting Thursday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m., park officials announced on its Facebook page.

"The culmination of this project provides improved access to the Park for disabled, elderly, and other mobility challenged park visitors as well as providing alternative transportation routes for shoppers, commuters, and students," officials announced on the park's Facebook posting.

The elevator will be accessible from Upper Landing Park. The 21-story elevator project cost $2.8 million, with $2.4 million coming from a federal grant, according to The Poughkeepsie Journal.
