Traffic was backed up for hours in both directions Tuesday, after police say a driver entered the New York Thruway the wrong way and caused a head on collision. The driver was identified as 32-year-old off-duty NYPD Officer Richard E. Christopher, Hudson Valley News 12 reprts. Authorities say Christopher drove his Dodge Durango the wrong way on I-87, by Exit 15 in Suffern, when he collided head on with a Honda CRV driven by 59 year old James D. DeVito. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers in either vehicle.
