Artists, crafters, writers, poets, musicians and performers with military backgrounds will be showing their work during the third annual Veteran Arts Showcase today through Sunday at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library in Hyde Park.The event is a celebration of veterans and the arts, and how arts heal.  Throughout the weekend, visitors will be able to experience a variety of multiple arts that touch connections to war and community.

Today’s opening reception is 5:30-8:30 p.m. with a Presentation of Colors and opening remarks, followed by the Veterans’ Theater Project: Leaving Theater, a civilian and veteran theatrical troop performing an interactive play  that focuses on veteran reintegration.  Saturday will feature a free Writers Workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for veterans and military families.   Community members are invited to an “Open Jam” with veteran musicians from 4-5 p.m.
