Nearly 40,000 Verizon workers from New England to the Mid-Atlantic region will go on strike this Wednesday. That is what the Communications Workers of America, a union representing the employees since 2014, said on Monday.

This includes workers in the Hudson Valley.

The Hudson Valley’s Local 1120 of the Communication Workers said concerns over less job security, a proposal to close call centers, and Verizon’s outsourcing of local jobs are some of the issues which lead to the strike. Local 1120 also said that Verizon has refused to negotiate on a number of issues such as salary and benefits.

The Times Herald reports that the negotiations between the parties began in June 2015, which was two months before the contract expired.
