An upstate New York man was allegedly high on LSD and cough syrup when he rescued a neighbor's dog from a house he thought was on fire. The only problem? The fire was a figment of his imagination.

In Halfmoon on Thursday, police were called to a residence with a report a car had crashed through a fence and the rear entrance of a home. The man driving then grabbed the neighbors dog and left. A local resident by the name of Michael Orchard believed the home was ablaze as a result of hallucinations from the psychedelic concoction he ingested.

WNYT reports that when authorities showed up, he was standing there 'heroically' after what he thought was a daring rescue. He had banging on neighbors doors trying to get help, but when no one would respond he took matters into his own hands.

The dog was returned safely but Orchard faces charges of Burglary in the 2nd degree and Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree. He was sent to Saratoga County Jail after failing to post bail.
