Update to Facebook App is What’s Maxing Out Your Data Plan

Facebook is not only ruining your life, it's now killing your data usage.  If you've seen a spike in your cell phone bill this month (like I have), we now know what it is and how to fix it.  The folks at Moneysavingexpert.com were the first to notice this unexpected "upgrade" to the latest version of the Facebook app for iPhone.  By default, Facebook has decided to turn on their autoplay feature.  This means that any video you happen to stumble across in your newsfeed will automatically start playing, using up tons of data if you're not on wi-fi.  Luckily, there's an easy fix.

For iPhone just go to Settings > Facebook > Settings > and then select "Auto-play only on Wi-fi".

For Android just go to the Facebook app and choose Settings > App Settings > Then select "Auto-play only on Wifi".

Moneysavingexpert.com suggests that those who think they were tricked into using excessive data should contact their mobile provider and request a refund.  Facebook declined to comment on why they turned on the feature knowing that it uses so much expensive data.
