New York State Police have arrested a woman in connection of a newborn baby being found dead inside a dumpster in Livingston.

With the help of the Columbia County District Attorney’s office, State Police arrested 20-year-old Tara J. Tomlin on Saturday. The Livingston resident was charged with second-degree murder.

On Friday morning around 3:40 a.m., State Police received an anonymous tip that a baby was left alone outside the XtraMart Bells Pond in Livingston. State troopers quickly responded to the scene; however their search failed to reveal the presence of any child.

Shortly after, New York State Police received more information which led to the discovery of a male newborn baby in a garbage bag in a dumpster. Emergency responders from the Greenport Rescue squad were on the scene and sadly determined that the baby had died due to his injuries. An autopsy revealed the baby chocked to death.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact New York State Police at (518) 851-3111.
