A Dutchess County inmate serving 13 years, assaulted a female officer and injured several others.

The incident took place at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Beekman, N.Y. on April, 24, 2018. The inmate was returning to his cell from an assigned program, when the incident took place.

When he was ordered into his cell, he instead charged the female officer, punching her in the face, knocking her momentarily unconscious. A second officer radioed for help as the inmate turned and attacked him, punching him several times in the face.

After attacking both officers, the inmate walked away, down the cell block, where he was ordered to stop by a third officer. The inmate put the officer in a bear hug, and headbutted him repeatedly in the face.

The officer managed to get the inmate on the ground, when two other officers arrived. The inmate continued to fight with officers on the floor, kicking and attempting to head butt them.

Officers were able to get the inmate under control and in restraints by using OC pepper spray.

The inmate, who was convicted in Westchester County in 2009 for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Escape, was transferred to Upstate Correctional Facility.

Five officers were treated at an area hospital and released. The female officer sustained a swollen and bloody nose, bruised forehead and face, and a sprained shoulder. None of the officers returned to duty.
