According to latest figures, unemployment is down in the region. The Times Herald Record reports that unemployment in the Hudson Valley region dipped to 4.5 percent in May of this year, down from 5.2 percent this time in 2014.

The NY State Department of Labor released figures that shows that hte unemployment rate for Ulster County dropping to 4.8 percent last month, compared to 5.6 percent in May 2014. Good news for Sullivan County as well, as their rate dropped to 5.6 percent last month, down from 6.5 percent a year earlier. Sullivan's rate, though, continued to be the highest in the Mid-Hudson region, and Putnam County maintained the lowest at 4.3 percent.

The Orange, Rockland, Westchester metropolitan area had an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent last month, down from 5.1 percent in May 2014, according to reports.

Columbia County had the lowest unemployment in the entire state. The jobless rate in Columbia County last month was 3.9 percent, down from 4.4 percent a year earlier. Tompkins and Saratoga counties were tied for second place last month, each posting a jobless rate of 4.1 percent.
