A Hudson Valley emergency first aid worker will spend 13 years in jail after pleading guilty to burglarizing the very people he was sworn to protect. The Times Herald Record reports that German Lobaton of the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad has plead guilty to burglary in the second degree.

While on duty in the town of Wawarsing, Lobaton would respond to medical emergencies and then later return to the patients' residences to steal from them, knowing that they were in the hospital and not home. The thefts took place last year and continued for 4 months.

The Record reports that State Police found most of the stolen items in Lobaton's home. In addition to the 13 year sentence, he has been ordered to have 5 years of supervision after he gets out.
