It's the age-old question, what do you do when you need experience to get a job, but you need a job to get experience? It's almost like the chicken and the egg debate.

In Ulster County, they are trying to do something about this dilemma, the job experience thing, not the chicken-egg question.  Earlier this week, Ulster County Executive Mike Hein announced that not only are they accepting applications for this year's Ulster County Summer Youth Employment Program, but accepted applicants will be paid more than in previous years.

Thanks to the NY State's Office of Disability and Temporary Assistance, the county has received $308,048 to fund this program which helps kids from low-income families not only get valuable work experience but a paycheck too. This means that the county can pay young people in this program $11 an hour for jobs in both public and private organizations.

To apply, you'll need to complete an interview and a jobs skills orientation session. The jobs are for 5 weeks and the deadline to apply is right around the corner on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
