Saugerties Woman Drove Drunk With 3 Children, Police Say

An Ulster County woman is accused of driving drunk with three young children in her car.

On Saturday, Saugerties Police were told about a driver who appeared to be driving under the influence of drugs. Police soon found the car on West Bridge Street and pulled the car over on Route 9W after allegedly observing the vehicle violate a number of vehicle and traffic laws.

Police say while interviewing the driver, 33-year-old Brianna Surkis of Saugerties, they determined she was intoxicated. They also noticed three children, all younger than 15, in her vehicle.

As a result Surkis was charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony under Leandra’s Law.

Village of Saugerties Court was contacted and released Surkis her own recognizance pending a court appearance scheduled for Sept 12.
