When I moved to the Hudson Valley, I was amazed at so many things about this area, including the history our region has. Every county, and every town in those counties, have unique stories about people and places that helped not only shape the Hudson Valley into what it is today, but our country as well.

With this much history, it can be hard to keep track of and so easily lost, which is why today's announcement in Ulster County meet with a great deal of excitement.

Ulster County Executive Mike Hein announced the appointment of Geoffrey Miller as Ulster County Historian. Mr. Miller has an extensive background as an educator, most recently in the Rondout Valley Central School District. In addition, he has written and presented on significant historical exhibits and projects, with topics spanning across Ulster County and the Hudson Valley Region. Mr. MIller is currently the Chair of the Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History, and is an active member of the Friends of Historic Kingston, Hudson River Maritime Museum and Arts Society of Kingston.

The County Historian will coordinate the work of the several town historians and local historical societies throughout the County, and will act as an advocate and resource for local history and historic preservation. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Ulster County Legislature.
