Lohud reports that two people were killed Thursday in an explosion at a multifamily home in Hastings-on- Hudson. The home owner, Django Morrison, and Hastings police chief Anthony Visalli both said contractors were removing an old underground tank from the back of the home when it exploded at about 11:30 a.m., killing two workers.

The workers worked for the Hawthorne based company, Three D Industrial Maintenance, says lohud.com. Neighbors say the workers had been at the home all week.Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said the force of the explosion threw the tank 75 feet into the air.

Area streets are closed Thursday afternoon while officials investigated the accident. Sidney Alvarez, a spokesman from Consolidated Edison, was on the scene and has said gas and electric service were not involved. More details as they develop.
