In two separate cases, two defendants, one who’s a teenager, were jailed for felony weapon possession.

On Friday,17-year-old Ulee Johnson of the City of Newburgh and James Youngberg, 46, of Wallkill were both sentenced to state prison on separate felony weapon possession cases.

Both were convicted after separate jury trials in Orange County Court.

Youngberg was sentenced to 13 years in state prison and 5 years post release supervision. His sentenced steams from a Jan. 2015 indecent.

Officials say, Youngberg got into an argument with a victim after drinking for several hours. He approached the victim with a loaded pistol in his hand. When Youngberg got close to the victim, the victim grabbed the gun and the two struggled.

The two were still fighting when police arrived. Youngberg fled and left the victim holding the gun, who dropped the gun and surrendered to police.

Youngberg’s DNA was later found on the three bullets in the pistol’s magazine.

Johnson was sentenced to 7 years in state prison and 5 years post release supervision after he was found guilty of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, tampering with physical evidence and menacing.

On Oct. 24, 2015, Johnson threatened a man in the City of Newburgh with a revolver. Johnson thought the gun was loaded but the ammunition in the gun was defective, officials say.

When police arrived on the scene, Johnson fled and hid the weapon. Authorities later found the weapon.

“Our county will be safer while these two defendants are in state prison,” District Attorney David M. Hoovler stated."
