Following a chase involving a police K9 two men from New York City were arrested for allegedly attempting to steal items from a home in Dutchess County.

Early Thursday morning Town of Poughkeepsie Police received a report of a possible burglary in progress at a home on Fair Way in Poughkeepsie. The resident reported hearing a knock on the door and then observed two men standing outside the home.

The resident locked the door, called police, and hid in a bedroom as the suspects allegedly forced their way into the home. When responding officers arrived the two men are accused for fleeing into a large wooded area behind the home.

A police K9 led officials to the suspects who were found hiding under a large trap several hundred feet away from the home.

Freddy Y. Ruiz-Garcia, 35, and 36-year-old Syrus E. Pena-Guerra, both from Queens were arrested without incident and charged with burglary, a class C felony.

Both were arraigned in Town of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond. They are scheduled to return to court on June 8.
