A 15-year-old and two men were arrested for possessing a loaded gun and fleeing police after a car chase in the City of Newburgh.

On Saturday evening, City of Newburgh Police attempted to stop a grey Hyundai Elantra in the area of Gidney Avenue and North Miller Street. The car, which police say matched a description from an earlier gun call, failed to stop and led police on a short chase on the streets of the City of Newburgh.

In the area of 99 North Street the car struck a parked vehicle and came to a stop. As the car came to a complete stop an object was allegedly thrown from vehicle. Police say the object was discovered to be a loaded Smith & Wesson black .380 caliber pistol that had been reported stolen out of Newburgh in 2014.

Taquan Hassell, 21, of New Windsor, 23-year-old Markis Michel, of Newburgh and a 15-year-old were arrested at the scene. Police are not releasing name or photo of the teen because of his age.

All 3 were charged with 2nd-degree criminal possession of a weapon, 2nd-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies. Michel, the driver, was additionally charged with reckless driving and issued traffic tickets.

Hassell and Michel were held in police custody pending arraignment. The teenager was processed and released to his family.
