Two Orange County man were charged, one with murder, in connection with the brutal beating death for a 48-year-old Newburgh man in March.

In Orange County Court 28-year-old Richard Vallejo, Orange County was charged with 2nd-degree murder, 1st-degree manslaughter, 2nd-degree assault, and 3rd-degree assault.

Kelsin Rivera, 30, of Newburgh was charged with 1st-degree manslaughter, 2nd-degree assault, and 3rd-degree assault.

On March 30th, 2016, Vallejo allegedly beating and stomped a 48-year-old Newburgh man with the intent to kill him. Vallejo fled the scene but was caught days later by police. Officials say Rivera acted with Vallejo in intentionally trying to cause serious physical injury to the man, which resulted in the victim dying.

Bail was set in the amount of $1 million cash or $2 million bond for Vallejo, and $500,000 cash or $1 million bond for Rivera.

Both defendants are currently in the Orange County Jail and are scheduled to next appear in Court on May 20, 2016.

“Violence in our streets can simply not be tolerated,” said District Attorney Hoovler David M. Hoovler in a statement. “Those who use violence to settle disputes harm not only those whom they actually injure, but all who have a right to feel safe in their communities”.
