Two Poughkeepsie residents were arrested following a larceny investigation into a forged cashed check.

Apolonio Martinez, 24, was charged with 2nd-degree forgery, a class D felony. 33-year-old Patricia Aragon Cruz was charged with 2nd-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony.

In February, State Police were contacted by a Beekman man who reported that a Poughkeepsie woman told him she lost a check that she issued to her in October of 2015. The Beekman man’s bank statement revealed that the check was chased by a third party.

Police say an investigation revealed that Aragon Cruz and Martinez came into possession of the check and allegedly cashed it after Martinez forged the payee’s signature.

Aragon Cruz was arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

Martinez was arraigned in the Town of LaGrange Court and released on his own recognizance.
