What was the big national headline yesterday? The cold? US response to the growing crisis in the Middle East? No. Llamas. Yes, llamas. Two llamas on the loose in an Arizona retirement community became a national curiosity Thursday, after escaping from their owner. The pair of llamas running through suburban Phoenix drew national attention and became a social media hit as their plight for freedom played out in front of our eyes.

The llamas ran from police, dodged vehicles, and even avoided lassos. Of course, a Twitter account was launched, documenting the animal's journey through traffic and confused pedestrians.

They even drew the attention of ESPN and the Arizona Cardinals.

According to reports, a rancher brought the animals to an assisted living facility to visit an ex-llama rancher as a form of therapy. Apparently, something scared the animals when the trailer door that was transporting them to the site opened. After an hour long chase, both llamas were eventually caught unharmed and returned to their owner.
