TV’s First Prime-Time Rock Music Show ‘Shindig!’ Premiered 50 Years Ago This Week

It was 50 years ago this week that 'Shindig!', televisions first prime time rock music show premiered on ABC in 1964. The was hosted by a disc jockey from L.A. Jimmy O'neill.

The instant hit show, showcased some of the best bands to come out of the 1960's including: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, and the list goes on. The show also had R&B artist like Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and The Temptations.

Though, the show had a short run it will still go down as the first prime time rock music show to be aired on television. The show aired it's last episode Jan. 8th, 1966.
