Happy Birthday today (Oct. 17) to Spinal Tap singer/guitarist David St. Hubbins. He's 70.

Actor Michael McKean who portrays rocker David St. Hubbins of Spinal Tap was born in NYC in 1967. He first got notoriety playing annoying neighbor Lenny Kosnowski on the hit tv series Laverne & Shirley. He also did some work as a cast member on Saturday Night Live in the 1990's.

Spinal Tap featured David St. Hubbins along with Nigel Tufnel (played by actor Christopher Guest) and Derek Smalls (played by actor Harry Shearer). The band was a parody, heavy metal group that was the focus of the 1984 rockumentary/mockumentary film This Is Spinal Tap, which was created by Rob Reiner. The band had some success in the 80's and would eventually break up. They reunited in 1992 for the album Break Like the Wind and on several other occasions, releasing a third album Back From the Dead. Although the fictional birth date for David St. Hubbins is listed as Aug. 13, we celebrate the birth of actor Michael McKean today. Cheers to the actor/rocker on his 70th!

*Fun Fact: St. Hubbins's name was inspired by Ted Nugent singer, guitarist Derek St. Holmes.
