Happy Birthday today (Dec. 1) to Blue Oyster Cult’s Eric Bloom and drummer John Densmore of The Doors. They both turn 71.

Blue Oyster Cult formed out of Long Island, NY and had a string of hit songs including "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", "Godzilla", and "Burnin' for You". The band has sold nearly 25 million albums worldwide since the release of their debut album in 1972. The most long lasting, and successful lineup of Blue Oyster Cult included Buck Dharma (lead guitar, vocals), Eric Bloom (guitar, vocals), Allen Laneier (keyboards, rhythm guitar), Joe Bouchard (bass), and Al Bouchard (drums).

Drummer John Densmore joined the Doors in 1965 and remained with the band until they disbanded in 1973. The Doors were one of the most controversial and influential band's of the 1960's ranking number 41 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". They were the first American band to have 8 consecutive gold and platinum records and have sold over 100 million records worldwide.
