An alert truck driver passing through the Hudson Valley is to thank for saving the life of an injured American Bald Eagle.

According to the Hudson Valley News Network the driver Mario Giorbano spotted the injured bird Tuesday morning while driving along State Route 17 in the town of Rockland. Giorbano says he was able to see the bird from his higher vantage point in the vehicle.

At first, the bird just appeared to be stuck in the mud but after he attempted to free him, Giorbano says he noticed the animal was injured so he called for help. New York State Police from the Roscoe and Liberty barracks soon arrived and offered to stay with the bird until licensed wildlife rehabilitator's could arrive on scene.

Before leaving the scene the bird's rescuer, Mr. Giorbano nick-named the bird “Anthony.” We wish Anthony a speedy recovery and thank Mr. Giorbano for his heroic deed!
