New York State Troopers have made an arrest in the August 31st shooting that occurred in the Town of Wallkill. 

On Aug. 31, 2016 troopers responded to a report of a shooting in the Town of Wallkill. Following an investigation troopers learned that a group of five people were approached by two black males in hooded sweatshirts.

The two males produced handguns and proceeded to rob the five victims. During the robbery, Myles Morales, 19, of Middletown was shot four times, and has been hospitalized since the attack, according to a press release.

The two men fled the scene in a gray passenger car. The investigation developed Jaylin K. Smith, 18, of Newburgh as one of the perpetrators of the crime.

Smith was arrested on Friday, Oct. 14 during a traffic stop on Route 9 in Wappingers. Smith was charged with one count each of robbery in the first degree, assault in the first degree, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. Smith possessed 47 small bags of heroin on his person at the time of the arrest.

He was arraigned and sent to Orange County Jail without bail pending a future court date.
