Listen to Train Cover ‘The Lemon Song’ From Their ‘Led Zeppelin II’ Tribute Album

On June 3, Train will release Does Led Zeppelin II, a song-by-song remake of Led Zeppelin’s second album, with the proceeds going to charity. You can listen to their take on “The Lemon Song” above.

According to a press release, they decided to record the album after they had performed it in its entirety earlier this year during their annual Sail Across the Sun cruise.  “Our favorite band is Led Zeppelin, and they made a huge impression on our lives musically,” frontman Pat Monahan said. “So I thought, why don’t we record one of their albums, just for the fun of it for our fans. The hard part was deciding which one.”

But they soon found out that there’s a difference between knowing the songs inside-out and being able to translate that love in the studio. “They are so hard to record, especially when you are trying to get as close a version as you can to the original,” he continued. “The mixes, the time that they put in, it’s crazy how great they were as a band. They were virtuosos at what they did. … I would love it if people get a dose of what’s hiding underneath Train’s songs, our influences, but we basically did this for the fun of it.”

Well, not entirely for the fun of it. They are giving 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the record to San Francisco’s Family House, an organization that provides temporary housing to families of low-income children who are receiving treatment at the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children's Hospital. Family House is a non-profit organization that is funded entirely by contributions of of individuals, corporations and foundations.

The group will perform the album in its entirety on a tour of select U.S. cities. This includes a stop at Mountain Jam in Hunter, N.Y., on June 2. The four-day festival will see performances by such acts as Gov’t Mule, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Wilco, Beck and Jason Isbell, as well as a tribute to David Bowie.
