Happy Birthday today (March 16) to guitarist/keyboardist Michael Bruce of the original Alice Cooper group. He’s 69. Other rockers celebrating today include Nancy Wilson of Heart (63), current Black Star Riders/ex Y&T and Megadeth drummer Jimmy DeGrasso (54), and Van Halen bassist Wolfgang Van Halen (26).
The original Alice Cooper group rose to fame in 1971 with the album Love It to Death and the single “I’m Eighteen”. The band consisted of Alice Cooper on vocals, Glen Buxton on lead guitar, Michael Bruce on rhythm guitar and keyboards, Dennis Dunaway on bass, and Neal Smith on drums. The band’s success peaked in 1973 with the album Billion Dollar Babies and the accompanying tour. The original Alice Cooper group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.

I spoke with Alice Cooper this past September just before his show at The Palace in Albany and he talked about working with his original band on a new album that is expected to be released at some point. You can check out the full interview below.
