A Hyde Park man is facing a number of felonies, including allegedly fleeing from Poughkeepsie Police with an officer hanging from the suspect's vehicle.

Kevin Winphrie, 35, was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies; second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and other vehicle and traffic violations.

Winphrie was pulled over Friday evening by Poughkeepsie Police. Officers say he attempted to reach for something as he was being removed from the vehicle. That's when Winphrie put the car into drive, with the officer still hanging from the door. According to reports, the officer was able to pull himself into the moving vehicle and physically retain the fleeing suspect.

The officer suffered a minor leg injury and was treated and released from  MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Winphrie is being held at Dutchess County Jail without bond.
